Emma Watson is an English film actress known for playing Hermione in the Harry Potter films. She is also a model and a co-founder of the HeforShe Campaign.
She was born in 1990 in Paris to English parents. In 1999, at age nine, she was cast as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a role she reprised for all eight Harry Potter films. Prior to landing the role, Watson's only acting experience was in school plays.
Watson has also starred in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Bling Ring and the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, in which she played the role of Belle. Her other roles include Regression, Colonia and The Circle. In 2019 she played Meg March in n Greta Gerwig's Academy Award-nominated adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel Little Women.
In addition to her flourishing acting career, Watson has modeled for Lancome and Burberry. She also holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Brown University. As a fashion consultant, she helped create a line of clothing for People Tree. She was honored by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in 2014, winning for British Artist of the Year.
Watson is also a feminist, having been the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. In that role, she helped launch the HeForShe campaign, which advocates for men to join the fight for gender equality.
